Pavlovsk

In 1777, Empress Catharine the 2nd presented her heir Paul with lands to build a suburban residence. In 1780 the construction work began. There is a park, a palace and several pavilions (architect Ch. Cameron). The Three Graces Pavillion, the Aviary, the Apollo Colonnade and the Great Cascade are indeed true architectural treasures. Architect V. Brenna designed the Italian Staircase, the Great Circus area, and the Ruinous Cascade. The Air Theatre, several bridges, the Mourning Gate, the Pink Pavilion and Gate, and the Memorial to Spouse and Benefactor appeared in the beginning of the 19th century (architects A. N. Voronikhin, G. Quarenghi, C. I. Rossi, J. T. de Thomon).
