The disk drive for diskettes provides an opportunity for reading and recording of the information on flexible disks (diskettes). Diskettes allow to transfer documents and programs from one computer on another and to store the information which is not used constantly on a computer. Diskettes in the size of 5,25 inches ("five-inch") and 3,5 inches ("three-inch") are most distributed. Diskettes differ from each other not only in size, but also in capacity, i.e. that quantity of the information which on them can be written down. Disk drives for three and five-inch diskettes differ from each other on appearance. Disk drives for diskettes of one size differ on the maximal capacity of diskettes which they support.
